In on a limb
Article Abstract:
Major improvements in the assessment and treatment of leg ulcers mean patients can be treated quickly if nurses employ methods which are based on researched practice. Medical conditions concerning leg circulatory problems require up to 2% of the UK national medical budget each year, therefore any improvement in assessment and treatment techniques should be encouraged during practice. Assessing a patient's pre-disposal towards developing leg ulcers is the first step in practising management of venous disorders, while continuous management techniques can help prevent a reoccurrence of infections.

Contact kept to a minimum
Article Abstract:
The failure of healing in some leg ulcers may be complicated by the presence of contact dermatitis causing inflammation and irritation of the surrounding skin. The healing progression can also be halted by either allergic or endogenous eczema. To combat this problem treatment of the underlying condition should start immediately. The causes of irritants should be determined by testing a small area of skin and eczema treated by steroid ointment, followed by a review of the whole process of leg ulcer treatment.

Reaction stations
Article Abstract:
Assessing individual patient's reactions to the presence of skin allergens can help in the treatment of leg ulcers which have become infected by eczema. Taking detailed notes of a patient's history will enable nursing staff to eliminate triggers which cause the eczema, enabling the leg ulcer to heal at a more rapid rate. A patch work allergy test is the only reliable method of eliminating certain irritants.
