Toenail selenium and breast cancer - a case-control study in Finland
Article Abstract:
The link between toenail selenium concentration and the risk of breast cancer was examined in a case-control study, 6-10 years after the start of selenium supplementation of fertilizers in Finland. Selenium was not found to be a significant factor in the etiology of breast cancer either in premenopausal or postmenopausal women.

Reported alcohol intake, diet and body mass index in male smokers
Article Abstract:
Alcohol consumption is positively related to cigarette smoking but unrelated to energy intake from food. Although the mean energy intake increases with alcohol consumption, alcohol does not substitute for food. The average body mass index is 25.8 kg/m squared for daily drinkers and 26.4 kg/m squared for occasional drinkers. Daily alcohol drinkers are leaner, and have a 100-200 kcal lower total energy intake than non-drinkers or occasional drinkers.

Increasing prevalence of underreporting does not necessarily distort dietary surveys
Article Abstract:
Dietary surveys are not affected by energy underreporting. The magnitude of underreporting and its relation with nutrient and food intake was examined using the two dietary surveys done in 1982 and 1992. Underreporting which was expressed as the energy intake lower than 1.27*BMR has increased from 1982 to 1992. However, underreporting did not distort the main results of the dietary surveys in contrast to micronutrient intakes.
