Inducing birth in cases of rupture of membranes
Article Abstract:
Women pregnant with their second or subsequent child can safely be induced the morning after experiencing prelabour rupture of the membranes (PROM) rather than be induced immediately, according to research. Women pregnant with their first child may be able to avoid delivery by Caesarean section by waiting as long as 72 hours after PROM for spontaneous contractions to occur. Eighty percent of pregnant women surveyed had spontaneous contractions 26 hours after experiencing PROM. Immediate induction has been the standard practice.

A brittle future: Adolescents with anorexia nervosa are at great risk of developing osteoporosis
Article Abstract:
Adult women with osteoporosis have a reduced bone mass and are more at risk of developing fractures. Effects on bone mineral density can be even more severe if the illness begins in adolescence. Adults who have had amenorrhea resulting from anorexia nervosa during adolescence, will have low spinal bone density. However there is evidence that bone mineral density can be regain in adolescents, after prolonged illness, with sufficient weight gain, although bone mass will remain low, despite recovery from anorexia nervosa.

Anorexia cases increase in Scotland
Article Abstract:
Anorexia nervosa cases are becoming more common in Scotland, according to a study. The number of cases rose by 5.3% per year between 1965-1991, and by 4.3% between 1970-1991. The number of referrals may have risen due to greater awareness. This idea is supported by an increase in sufferers' weight.
