Involving patients in staff hand hygiene
Article Abstract:
The `cleanyourhands' campaign is a useful tool for increasing staff compliance with hand hygiene protocols, but will be successfully implemented if it is patient-focused and sensitive to staff needs. Measures taken at ward level to facilitate patients to ask staff to wash their hands such as distribution of leaflets, posters and badges were thought by participants helpful, but the most successful measure reported was the staff wearing badges inviting patients to ask whether they had washed their hands.
