Is bigger better?
Article Abstract:
MedPartners Inc is acquiring Caremark International Inc, the latest move in the wave of consolidation in the fledgling physician-management industry. As both companies are publicly traded, the physicians whose practices are affected by the acquisition could not be informed of the deal before the general public without violating federal securities laws. Experts suggest, therefore, that doctors be very sure that the contract they sign with practice-management firms is comprehensive, because it could be sold at some time in the future without their knowledge or input. The Caremark acquisition is only the latest move in an ambitious growth strategy for MedPartners.
