Women should realize that life threatening food-borne bacteria such as Listeria, E. coli and salmonella may be residing in their kitchen. However, food-borne diseases can be prevented by taking steps such as washing hands before preparing food and keeping foods refrigerated.

There are many summer snack foods that are low in calories and fat. An analysis of popular snack foods is given including such foods as ice cream, potato chips, onion dip, fruit, vegetables, cookies and sweets. Low calorie alternatives are also given.

The nutrient gap

Most people are not getting enough vitamins. Even matching the US Recommended Daily Allowances is not enough since the USRDA is a standard for adequate nutrition only. Vitamins C and E and beta carotene are crucial nutrients.
