Jobs: hidden element in health care system
Article Abstract:
Health care providers claim it will be hard to reduce medical care costs if the industry does not reduce jobs. Many large urban hospitals are the leading employers in cities such as Detroit, MI, and Cleveland, OH. Reducing the number of health care workers in the US may have disastrous economic affects on a number of small towns that rely on medical centers for employment. Managed competition health care will only increase the number of administrative personnel in the health care field. It is important for politicians to understand the economic impact health care jobs have on communities before making any decisions.

Public's health care expectations must change
Article Abstract:
Some medical procedures that involve excessive costs and pain should be eliminated if they do not promise restored health. For instance, low-birth-weight babies with many physical defects require tremendous expenditures and heroic measures that offer little prospect for success. Also, elderly persons may prefer to die with dignity rather than undergo emergency operations and artificial life-sustaining measures to keep them nominally alive. Our attitudes toward these futile efforts must change.
