Just rewards on the wards
Article Abstract:
Nurses are frequently relied upon to help inexperienced junior hospital doctors but their role usually goes unrecognised. Nurses help the junior doctors both practically and by preventing them from making mistakes, but the nurses ultimately feel that they are performing the doctors' tasks for them. Some hospitals have introduced 'site practioner' nurses who have a specific role to offer new doctors assistance with their administrative and clinical work. Many doctors admit they rely heavily on the support of nurses, particularly in their first few weeks on the wards.

Bad habits spread as staff numbers drop
Article Abstract:
The targets set by the UK government in its 'Health of the Nation' programme for smoking among school children, drinking among women and obesity have not been met, according to the National Audit Office. Indeed, these problems are continuing to get worse. This is partly due to a reduction in the number of health professionals, especially health visitors and school nurses. The government has relied on leaflets about healthy lifestyles, rather than actually training people in helping people to make the right lifestyle choices.
