Failure of serum beta(sub 2)-microglobulin levels as an early marker of preeclampsia
Article Abstract:
Elevated blood levels of beta(sub 2)-microglobulin do not accurately predict which pregnant women will develop preeclampsia, a serious complication of pregnancy. Beta(sub 2)-microglobulin is a protein formed by the immune system.

Placenta growth factor is not an early marker for the development of severe preeclampsia
Article Abstract:
Pregnant women who develop preeclampsia have lower blood levels of placenta growth factor than other women but this may be a result of preeclampsia, not a cause of it. Placenta growth factor is a protein that activates endothelial cells, which are cells that line the inside of blood vessels.

Lack of association of severe preeclampsia with maternal and fetal mutant alleles for tumor necrosis factor alpha and lymphotoxin alpha genes and plasma tumor necrosis factor alpha levels
Article Abstract:
A mutation in the gene for tumor necrosis factor alpha is not more frequent in pregnant women with preeclampsia, nor are they more likely to have elevated blood levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha. Preeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy.
