Lecithin has no effect on serum lipoprotein, plasma fibrinogen and macro molecular protein complex levels in hyperlipidaemic men in a double-blind controlled study
Article Abstract:
Lecithin and sunflower oil treatments led to a substantial increase in plasma linoleic acid levels, while lecithin therapy had no independent effects on serum lipoproteins, plasma fibrinogen or macro molecular protein complex (MPC) levels. In a double-blind study which controlled for possible indirect effects, 21 hyperlipidaemic men were subjected to one of three treatments, namely, frozen yoghurt, frozen yoghurt with soya bean lecithin, or frozen yoghurt with 17 gm sunflower oil. A significant increase in body weight, serum total cholesterol and decreased MPC levels were noted after sunflower therapy.

Effects of moderate consumption of red wine on platelet aggregation and haemostatic variables in healthy volunteers
Article Abstract:
The consumption of alcohol or red wine in moderate amounts decreases collagen-induced platelet aggregation and the amount of fibrinogen in the blood. The positive effect of red wine on haemostasis is due to the alcoholic part and not the non-alcoholic fraction of the wine. The ADP-induced platelet aggregation, tissue-type plasminogen activator antigen, von Willebrand factor, and plasminogen levels are independent of alcohol consumption. The decrease in the level of fibrinogen decreases the chances of coronary heart disease.

Extruded dry beans and serum lipoprotein and plasma haemostatic factors in hyperlipidaemic men
Article Abstract:
Extruded dry beans were included in the diet to determine their effects on serum lipoprotein, plasma fibrinogen, plasma viscosity and PAI-1 levels. No effects on serum lipoproteins, plasma fibrinogen and viscosity levels were observed, but PAI-1 levels were decreased.
