Long-term air pollution exposure and acceleration of atherosclerosis and vascular inflammation in an animal model
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis that subchronic exposure to environmentally relevant particulate matter, even at low concentrations, potentiates atherosclerosis and alters vasomotor tone is tested in a mouse model. The findings suggest that mice exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of particulate matter had more atherosclerosis and vascular inflammation and a heightened vasococonstrictive response than mice exposed to filtered air.
