Longitudinal assessment of HIV-1 and HSV-2 shedding in the genital tract of West African women
Article Abstract:
Research is conducted to prospectively study HIV-1 and HSV-2 shedding in the genital tract of women in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, to assess a new sample collection method and to estimate the optimal frequency of HIV-1 and HSV-2 shedding management to be used in subsequent intervention trials. Results reveal that cervicovaginal lavages enriched with a cervical swabbing (eCVL) is a reliable sampling method for detecting both viruses.

Chemokine responses are increased in HIV-infected Malawian children with invasive pneumococcal disease
Article Abstract:
The chemokine response to invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) and the influence of HIV infection on the chemokine response, pneumococcal bacterial loads and outcome are studied. The results have shown that chemokines are related with survival in IPD and correlate with pneumococcal bacterial loads, disease presentation, and outcome.
