Looking at treatment from the patient's perspective

Physicians should help relieve patients' fears and anxieties about illnesses and treatments by understanding their feelings and emotions. Patients seem to be most afraid of being alone in their anxieties, but listening to patients' problems and speaking encouraging words can also help relieve fears. Physicians are trained to detect routine symptoms and diagnosis illness, but illness and treatment do not seem routine and ordinary to many patients.
