Making Medicaid work: how physician initiative solved the Medicaid problem in one U.S. community
Article Abstract:
Physicians in Lincoln, NE, developed a referral system that improved medical care access for Medicaid patients. Prior to the program's implementation, Medicaid patients usually obtained medical care through hospital emergency departments because of the lack of access to the city's primary care physicians. The referral program, which is supported by 90% of the area's doctors, rotates patient referrals among physicians participating in the program. The program also offers a method to control noncompliant Medicaid patients.

Melatonin caution: latest magic bullet may not hit target
Article Abstract:
Physicians should treat patients who ask about the so-called miracle hormone melatonin as an age deterrent with caution. They should advise patients that little medical evidence exists on the efficacy of the pineal gland hormone, which is now being made synthetically and marketed as a dietary supplement that can reverse the effects of age. Low doses of the drug have been shown to be effective in treating certain body-clock and sleep disorders.
