Malignant myxoid sarcoma of the Bartholin gland in pregnancy
Article Abstract:
Malignant tumors of the Bartholin gland may need prompt biopsy to establish a correct diagnosis and provide the best treatment. The Bartholin glands are found near the opening of the vagina and may develop cysts and abscesses. A 31-year-old pregnant woman was found to have a Bartholin cyst at 29 weeks of pregnancy. Immediately after vaginal delivery, the cyst was removed. Upon analysis, it was found to be a highly malignant tumor full of mucus. The area was excised again eight weeks later to remove all traces of the tumor. Ten months later, a smaller tumor was found in the same place. It was surgically removed, and the woman had additional treatment with electron beam teletherapy.

A prospective randomized study to evaluate leuprolide acetate treatment before laparoscopic myomectomy: efficacy and ultrasonographic predictors
Article Abstract:
Laparoscopic surgery to remove uterine fibroids may be more successful if the woman takes leuprolide acetate before surgery. This drug resembles gonadotropin-releasing hormone, and can make fibroids shrink. Researchers compared the outcome of laparoscopic surgery on 67 women with uterine fibroids, about half of whom took leuprolide acetate before surgery. Women who took the drug lost less blood and had shorter operations. However, some had longer operations because the drug made the fibroid softer, making its removal more difficult.

Effects of leuprolide acetate on low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma
Article Abstract:
Doctors describe the first known case of a woman with an endometrial tumor called low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma who was treated with the drug leuprolide acetate. The drug caused the tumor to shrink. This would make it easier to remove the tumor surgically.
