Mental Health and Nutritional Status Among the Adult Serbian Minority in Kosovo

Article Abstract:

Many elderly Kosovar Serbs are malnourished and suffer from stress, according to a survey of 204 adults aged 15 years or older. Of the 141 adults who needed health care, more than half never received it.

Malnutrition, Measles, Mortality, and the Humanitarian Response During a Famine in Ethiopia

Article Abstract:

Humanitarian aid must arrive quickly after a famine to prevent widespread starvation. In the Gode district of Ethiopia between December 1999 and July 2000, 72% of the deaths among children under the age of five were caused by malnutrition and wasting. Over 70% of the deaths occurred before humanitarian relief arrived.

Malnutrition and Mortality in Kohistan District, Afghanistan, April 2001. (Letter From Afghanistan)

Article Abstract:

A humanitarian crisis existed in Afghanistan long before the start of the war against terrorism. As of April, 2001, the mortality rate in Kohistan district, Faryab province was three adults per 10,000 people per day and 6 children per 10,000 people per day. This was a direct result of the civil war and the continuing drought.
