Man troubles
Article Abstract:
It is still very common in the UK for men to be very unwilling to seek medical advice. Men are half as likely to visit their GP as women, and often only do so when their condition is far advanced and therefore difficult to treat. Men continue to die five years younger than women, with men from more deprived areas dying 10 years younger. Minister for Public Health Yvette Cooper has made a commitment that the government will improve access to primary care, invest more in research on prostate cancer, tackle diseases most likely to affect men and look at ways of reducing levels of alcohol misuse and sexually transmitted diseases.

Nursing a family favourite
Article Abstract:
Nursing is a very satisfying career, according to William Neary, who undertook his RMN and RGN training at Netherne psychiatric hospital in Surrey, England. His mother, Isabella, was a psychiatric nurse between 1915 and 1924, and his sister Eileen Cych was also a nurse. Several other members of his family have entered nursing, including his daughter Deidrey Lees, who undertook RN training at Jersey General Hospital between 1972 and 1975. His son-in-law, Geoffrey Lees, also comes from a family in which there is a long tradition of nursing.
