Marriage of convenience
Article Abstract:
There is a growing trend in the UK towards joint training in learning disability nursing and social work, and this brings many benefits. Joint training encourages nurses to develop a multidiscliplinary and holistic approach which takes on board good practice from both the social work and nursing sectors. People with learning disabilities now have ever widening horizons, and so should be offered more tailored and flexible services to help them achieve a higher quality of life and experience.

Article Abstract:
A consensus conference on Mar 12, 1993 has considered options for future development of learning disability nursing. A discussion paper by Professor David Sines suggested general nursing could successfully absorb this speciality. However, links with social services or education may be more appropriate. The increasing academic orientation of nurse training may be inappropriate for learning disability nursing.
