Medicare pay for home infusion may be slow despite report
Article Abstract:
An Office of Technology Assessment report on home infusion therapy was not the strong endorsement for Medicare expansion that some had hoped for, but a neutral outline of available therapies and options for coverage. The report, 'Home Drug Infusion Therapy Under Medicare,' discusses how to develop payment guidelines and quality assurance programs and calls for more information to calculate costs. Nursing home and outpatient care coverage are also considered. The report paves the way for flexible legislation that could address coverage for new therapies when they become viable.
