Medicine's voice is the key to reform
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association (AMA) played an important role in the adoption of health insurance legislation by Congress in 1996. The AMA supported provisions on insurance portability, medical savings accounts and health care fraud. Congress appears to be listening to physician concerns, as an AMA network made more than 4,000 telephone calls to legislators regarding the fraud provision. The AMA still wants expanded choice for patients and specified contributions toward health care financing from business and government.
