Mixed feelings
Article Abstract:
Student and nurse reactions to Project 2000 have been studied in Ipswich and Great Yarmouth. About 53% of 147 students responded to questionnaires inviting comment on placements and staff relations. Most felt staff were unsure about project 2000 requirements. Supernumary status also caused integration problems. About 39% of 140 nurses responded to a similar questionnaire on the relevance of the Project. Nurses approved of a critical approach and emphasis on research. However, many felt practical skills were underemhasised initially. More guidance on practical training would have been useful.

Barriers to learning
Article Abstract:
South West Thames Regional Health Authority initiated a study into education needs of practice nurses. Information from questionnaires and telephone interviews indicated a need for communication skills training. However, only five nurses enrolled in a course devised to meet those needs. Ten out of 18 nurses who had expressed interest reported a negative General Practitioner reaction. Five nurses indicated lack of practice support.
