NICE friend or foe?
Article Abstract:
NICE was set up by the Department of Health in 1999 and its aim is to provide information about the best treatment for patients. The three main types of guidelines published by NICE are clinical guidance, technology appraisals, which recommended specific treatments or drugs, and interventional procedures, including surgery, invasive procedures and X-rays and it has also taken on the responsibility for issuing public health guidance such as smoking cessation interventions.

NICE guidance on use of topical corticosteroids in atopic eczema
Article Abstract:
The use of topical corticosteroids in treating atopic eczema and the related guidance issued by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) is examined. The guidance issued concerns the frequency of application of topical corticosteroids, and addresses the use of preparations containing steroids only.
