NIEHS workshop: unique marine/freshwater models for environmental health research
Article Abstract:
Unique marine and freshwater models have been developed for environmental health research using modern genetic methods and protein-engineering techniques to gain insight into mechanisms that underlie adverse environmental effects. The relationships between genetic and environmental factors in disease can be studied. Diagnosis, treatment of prevention of disease can all be improved. In the future it may be possible to knock in human metabolic pathways to explore them in fish models.

NIEHS and CDC track human exposure to endocrine disruptors
Article Abstract:
The National Inst. of Environmental and Health Sciences (NIEHS) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are collaborating in tracking human exposure to endocrine disruptors. They hope to make the science base for risk assessments more robust and address some knowledge gaps that have helped create very visible controversies that surround the area to make meaningful studies on gene-environment interactions possible.

Screening methods for thyroid hormone disruptors
Article Abstract:
Researches evaluated various screens for identifying chemicals that alter thyroid hormone function and homeostasis. While most screening methods were too specific, the process of determining serum thyroid hormone concentrations after chemical exposure in rodents was considered a useful method for initial screening.
