Neuropathies associated with paraproteinemia
Article Abstract:
About 10% of peripheral nerve disorders of unknown cause can be caused by excess amounts of immunoglobulins in the blood, a condition called paraproteinemia. Immunoglobulins are antibodies, and antibodies against components of the nerve cell can cause peripheral nerve disorders. In many of these nerve disorders, the antibody is an IgM antibody against myelin-associated glycoprotein as well as lipids associated with nerve cells. Nerve disorders associated with paraproteinemia include a non-cancerous monoclonal gammopathy, multiple myeloma, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia and lymphoma.

Autoantibodies to ganglionic acetylcholine receptors in autoimmune autonomic neuropathies
Article Abstract:
Some types of autoimmune nerve diseases produce antibodies against the ganglionic acetylcholine receptor, according to a study of 157 patients with various types of autoimmune nerve disease. Twenty-five had antibodies against the ganglionic acetylcholine receptor.

Plasma exchange for primary autoimmune autonomic failure
Article Abstract:
A case report of a patient with long-standing severe autonomic failure that affected his sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems is presented. Removal of the antibodies by means of plasma exchange resulted in a dramatic clinical improvement.
