New facts on schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
New research and the emergence of brain imaging techniques shows that schizophrenia is a group of illnesses caused by neurodevelopmental abnormalities and not, as previously believed, an indication of social and pyschological problems. The training of mental health students must include more knowledge of biochemistry, genetics and neuroanatomy, plus an understanding of the structure and function of the brain. Such knowledge is crucial in treating and caring for people with schizophrenia and their families.
