New protection for old
Article Abstract:
Working with elderly people can be very stressful, and many health professionals have reached the point where they feel that they cannot cope any more. Against this background, it is inevitable that cases of systematic or one-off elder abuse arise. Abuse takes place in all environments where old people are cared for, but is a particular cause for concern in the nursing home sector. It is vital that health professionals are taught the necessary skills for dealing with stress when working with elderly people. Most importantly, they must depersonalise the situation.
