Article Abstract:
The European Working Time Directive to reduce doctors' work hours opened up new opportunities for the nursing profession. Some of the current changes and future plans for nurses include development of nurse practitioner role, introduction of extended prescribing powers to further enhance nursing role and paediatrics and maternity may be brought within the Hospital at Night programme.

Article Abstract:
The patients and their relatives behave rudely with the nurses due to several reasons. Poor communication, feeling unwell or in pain, rigid routines, bells not answered promptly, effect of drinks and drugs and lack of privacy and dignity are some of the common complaints that the nurses have to deal with in order to prevent bad behavior from a patient.

Who is next of kin?
Article Abstract:
Identifying and dealing with patients' next of kin or close relatives is becoming increasingly complex for nurses. Key issues relating to a patient's next of kin are discussed. All competent adult patients should be asked to nominate their next of kin formally on admission, although patients are not obliged to do so.
