No needle is a safe needle; new IV technologies represent best hedge against infection
Article Abstract:
A study by the New York State Department of Health reports that new, safe intravenous technology makes the use of hypodermic needles unnecessary. These new devices prevent the spread of bloodborne infections, such as HIV and hepatitis, and avoid injuries caused by needles and sharps, which were estimated at 800,000 last year. Health personnel evaluated ease of use of 14 injection devices including IV delivery systems, catheters and phlebotomy equipment. High cost of this equipment must influence the purchasing decision.
