Nutrient intakes and cholesterol values of the parents in a prospective randomized child-targeted coronary heart disease risk factor intervention trial - the STRIP project
Article Abstract:
The randomized, prospective Special Turku Coronary Risk Factor Intervention Project for children (STRIP) aims to reduce children's exposure to environmental atherosclerosis risk factors by early diet counseling. The intervention has significantly decreased the intake of saturated fat and cholesterol in 1-4 year old children. It was hypothesized that child-targeted, dietary counseling could also modify the food habits of parents, but the impact of dietary counseling on parents' food consumption and serum cholesterol concentrations was quite small.

Effect of low-saturated fat, low-cholesterol dietary intervention on fatty acid compositions in serum lipid fractions in 5-year-old children. The STRIP project
Article Abstract:
The effects of dietary low-saturated fat on fat intake and fatty acid compositions in serum cholesterol ester (CE), phospholipid (PL) and triglyceride (TG) fractions in five year old children were evaluated. It is concluded that intervention led to decreased intake of saturated fatty acids and lowered serum total and LDL cholesterol concentrations.
