Observations from a ploughman
Article Abstract:
Stephen Paget, assistant surgeon, observed all cancer cells continually develop wherever they settle, but grow only in certain organs that are predisposed to a secondary cancer, by analyzing case histories of cancer that led to the 'soil and seed' hypothesis of metastasis. Cancer cells require nourishment from their environment, which is still the motivation factor for research, but unraveling the molecular mechanisms that bring 'soil and seed' together to promote metastases is focused.
