Obstetric performance of patients after oocyte donation
Article Abstract:
Women with ovarian failure and women over 40 years old can successfully conceive and deliver healthy babies from ovum donations. However a review of five cases of women who conceived through the process of ovum donation found that the women older than 40 years were susceptible to increased health risks. Ovum donation is similar to in vitro fertilization except that the egg cells are donated from another woman rather than coming from the woman in which they will be implanted once fertilized. Four of the five cases reviewed involved women in excellent health. The fifth woman had been diagnosed with a form of anemia and an irritation of the large intestine when she was 29 years old. The women were 31 to 48 years old. All of the women had normal pregnancies during the first and second trimesters. One woman had a cesarean section. The patient with anemia had placental complications that necessitated curettage and a blood transfusion. A 41 year old woman's membranes ruptured at 34.5 weeks. This was followed by vaginal delivery of a healthy infant. The last two patients, aged 44 and 48 years, both encountered major complications. They were both pregnant with twins. Both went into premature labor at 32 weeks' gestation which required drug therapy to suppress labor. They both developed high blood pressure related to their pregnancies. They both delivered healthy babies.

Isolated elevation of serum alkaline phosphatase level in an uncomplicated pregnancy: a case report
Article Abstract:
Doctors report the case of a 28-year-old pregnant woman whose blood levels of alkaline phosphatase increased during pregnancy even though she had no underlying disorder that could have caused it. Once the baby was born, the level returned to normal. Alkaline phosphatase is produced mostly by the placenta, bone, and liver.

Is vaginal birth after cesarean safe? Experience at a community hospital
Article Abstract:
A vaginal birth after a previous cesarean delivery is very safe as long as labor is not induced. In a study of 1,481 pregnant women with a previous cesarean, 12 (1.6%) experienced a ruptured uterus and 11 of these women had been induced.
