A gear shaving machine operator, Jane Inskip, employed at the Luton, UK, plant of Vauxhall, motor company, has obtained 59,618 pounds sterling compensation for repetitive strain injury (RSI). It is hoped that this, the biggest payment so far for such an injury, will set a precedent. An appeal will be made by Vauxhall.

The Health Education Authority (HEA) has launched a new scheme setting a new national quality standard in health promotion in the workplace. The Health at Work Award incorporates 12 quality standards and concentrates on both lifestyle and organisational issues.
