One enzyme inactivates two antibiotics
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to show that mutations in a single enzyme-encoding gene can be used to confer resistance to all the classes of the fluoroquinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin that are used to treat several infections including sexually transmitted diseases and urinary tract infections. The results suggest that more new antibiotic treatment regimes should be developed and employed to reduce the need for generating resistance thus reducing the risk of transmission of the above-mentioned infections.

Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to define a physiologic role in the suppression of appetite for a novel brain-expressed peptide, nestafin-1, which is derived from the protein nucelobindin-2 (NUCB2). Results show that injection of NUCB2 directly into the brain of rats promotes anorexia and that injection of antibodies to NCUB2 in the rat central nervous system potently stimulates feeding.
