Our colleagues: the CRNAs
Article Abstract:
A proposed move by the Health Care Financing Administration would remove physician supervision for certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) in operating rooms. Nursing advocates support the ruling, although some anesthesiologist groups are opposed. The central issue seems to be how various types of medical personnel affect quality patient care. Nursing practice stands to benefit from this proposed rule.

An acute/critical care nurse practitioner program
Article Abstract:
The University of Massachusetts Medical Center (UMMC) has redesigned its advanced practice nursing (APN) curriculum to integrate education and practice. The new curriculum provides nurses the background and skills needed to meet modern demands for quality nursing. Nursing schools can follow UMMC's example and create curriculums involving clearly defined APN roles, direct practice, research, and education.
