Outcomes and costs after hip fracture and stroke: a comparison of rehabilitation settings
Article Abstract:
Rehabilitation facilities (RF) are only cost effective for certain groups of patients. Researchers studied 485 stroke patients and 518 patients with hip fracture who were admitted to a nursing home, an acute care nursing home or a RF. Only the stroke patients benefitted from the RF, while patients with hip fracture showed no significant change in outcome whether treated in a RF, subacute nursing home or traditional nursing home. Both RF and subacute treatments were more expensive and hip fracture patients at traditional nursing homes had comparable outcomes at a much lower cost.

Neuropsychological and renal effects of dental amalgam in children: A randomized clinical trial
Article Abstract:
A study to compare the neuropsychological and renal function of children whose dental caries were restored using amalgam or mercury-free materials is illustrated. It was concluded that there were no statistically significant differences, although it is possible that very small IQ effects cannot be ruled out, which suggests that the health effects of amalgam restorations in children need not be the basis of treatment decisions when choosing restorative dental materials.
