Pancreatic expression of infection-y protects mice from lethal coxsackievirus B3 interferon(gamma) and subsequent myocarditis
Article Abstract:
Research on viral infection as a leading cause of cardiovascular disease is presented. Coxsackievirus B3 is identified as a leading culprit of viral infection and has been used to reproduce human heart disease in trangenic mice, which did not express interferon-y in their pancreatic cells and did not develop CB-3 induced myocarditis; the function of immune response is challenged, and it is suggested that levels of veremia be reduced early during infection to prevent myocarditis.

Statins selectively inhibit leukocyte function antigen-1 by binding to a novel regulatory integrin site
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the beta2 integrin leukocyte function antigen-1. Results indicate that the statin compounds used for the hypercholesterolemia treatment block beta2 integrin leukocyte function antigen-1-mediated adhesion of lymphocytes.

Viral damage or 'molecular mimicry': placing the blame in myocarditis
Article Abstract:
Research attempts to explain viral damage associated with myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart wall muscular tissue. Issues discussed include coxsackieviruses, heart antigens, host antigens, autoimmune responses to antigens, and infections.
