Partial UK genetic database planned
Article Abstract:
The UK's Medical Research Council has approved a study that would collect genetic and other health data from 500,.000 volunteers. Proponents say this is a stepping stone to using data from the National Health Service on the entire population of Great Britain. Critics compare it to the controversial DeCode program in Iceland.

UK insurers allowed to use genetic tests
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom is advocating the use of genetic testing by insurance companies to make life insurance assessments regarding Huntington's Disease. The author maintains that the United Kingdom is the first country to do so, and has received criticism from the National Consumer Council.

UK plans to encourage physician scientists

A report by the Academy of Medical Sciences recommends the immediate creation of 50 clinical research posts per year in UK medical schools. The purpose of this lofty goal is to encourage doctors to engage in clinical research in a tenure-track faculty position.
