Paternity after bilateral cryporchidism: a controlled study
Article Abstract:
Bilateral cryptorchidism may cause infertility in men. Bilateral cryptorchidism is failure of both testes to descend into the scrotum. Researchers compared paternity rates in 73 men with bilateral cryptorchidism, 450 men with one-sided cryptorchidism and 518 healthy men. Overall, half of the bilateral cryptorchidism group had fathered children versus three-quarters of the one-sided cryptorchidism group and the normal men. Among those attempting paternity, 62% of the bilateral cryptorchidism group had fathered children versus 89% of men with one-sided cryptorchidism and 94% of the healthy men.

Altered neuregulin 1-erbB4 signaling contributes to NMDA receptor hypofunction in schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
Study is conducted to show a marked increase in neuregulin 1- (NRG1)-induced activation of erbB4 in the prefrontal cortex in schizophrenia. It was found that NRG1 stimulation suppresses NMDA receptor activation in the human prefrontal cortex and the NRG1-induced suppression of NMDA receptor activation was more pronounced in Schizophrenia subjects than in controls, consistent with enhanced NRG1-erbB4 signaling seen in this illness, and the results suggested that enhanced NRG1 signaling may contribute to NMDA hypo function in schizophrenia.

Gentamicin-induced bilateral vestibular hypofunction
Article Abstract:
Patients who must take the antibiotic gentamicin should be monitored daily for signs of damage to the part of the inner ear that maintains balance. This probably occurs because the drug damages the hair cells in the inner ear. These hair cells can regenerate in birds but this mechanism has not been demonstrated in humans. The most common symptoms are dizziness, unsteadiness and difficulty moving. It can be diagnosed by these clinical signs as well as other tests. Patients can be helped by rehabilitation exercises.
