Pencils: a lead end
Article Abstract:
Medical practitioners and administrators who resent the ubiquitous onset of information technology do more to cloud the issue than elucidate it. As physicians flock to the "Lead Pencil Club" and other like-minded groups who oppose the encroachment of computers and automation, the subtle positives and negatives of information technology become subsumed by vitriolic posturing, thereby pitting newfound medical factions against one another. Medical personnel should accept the assimilation of information technology into the practice and administration of medicine; dissent should be informed.

Controversial ruling in Florida: splitting fees or splitting hairs?
Article Abstract:
Paying a physician practice management (PPM) company for referrals amounts to illegal fee splitting, according to the Florida Board of Medicine. Dr. Magan Bakarania, a cardiologist, brought the case to the board before making a decision on whether to join a group that contracts with PhyMatrix, a PPM. PhyMatrix plans to appeal the decision.
