Perspectives of Maryland dentists on oral cancer
Article Abstract:
Dentists are the best professionals to detect oral cancer but many do not do a thorough exam. This was the conclusion of two focus groups of dentists in Maryland, which ranks seventh in the nation in oral cancer mortality overall and third in oral cancer mortality among African-Americans.

Performing a death-defying act
Article Abstract:
Dentists can play a very important role in examining their patients for signs of mouth cancer as well as counseling them to stop drinking and smoking. This means more patients will be diagnosed when the cancer is in its very early stages and is most curable.

Professional and community efforts to prevent morbidity and mortality from oral cancer
Article Abstract:
The public educational programs of New York, New Jersey, and Maryland to increase awareness of mouth cancer are described. These campaigns include the use of surveys, focus groups, flyers, leaflets, media ads, legislation, and professional endorsements.
