Pharmacogenetics in cancer treatment
Article Abstract:
This review discusses the role of drug-metabolizing enzyme genotypes in improving the therapeutic index by enhancing drug efficacy and reducing adverse response to chemotherapeutic regimens. The influence of pharmacogenetic determinants on the treatment outcome and transporter pharmacogenetics in drug bioavailability are also discussed.

Pharmacogenomics and individualized drug therapy
Article Abstract:
Pharmacogenetics deals with inherited differences in the response to drugs and the best-recognized examples are genetic polymorphisms of drug-metabolizing enzymes, which affect about 30% of all drugs. It is demonstrated that the use of pharmacogenetic testing in the clinical setting can improve the benefit/risk ratio of drug therapy.

Functional genomics of the paraoxonase (PON1) polymorphisms: effects on pesticide sensitivity, cardiovascular disease, and drug metabolism
Article Abstract:
Research shows that the genetic variability of the high-density lipoprotein-associated serum paraoxonase position 192 isoforms affect sensitivity of the paraoxonase to insecticides or nerve agents and pose risk for cardiovascular disease. The review also presents data on its role in drug metabolism.
