Physicians have always offered free health care to needy
Article Abstract:
It is dangerous to think that the problem of limited access to healthcare will be solved if more doctors would volunteer their services. To do so encourages the public to blame doctors for a problem created by the entire system, not just one segment. It also ignores doctors' quiet, everyday acts of generosity. While the profession is not without scoundrels, medicine's oldest tradition is compassion.

Keep physicians in control of contracting, teaching
Article Abstract:
The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) believes in strengthening the bonds between physician and patient and allowing physicians to maintain solid levels of financial and managerial control. The MGMA supports direct contracting with provider-sponsored organizations as a means to empower physicians, and opposes attempts by commercial health plans to wrest power from physicians.
