Pilonidal sinus: treatments for the painful and potentially embarrassing condition pilonidal sinus are improving
Article Abstract:
Pilonidal sinus, a condition where tough hair penetrates the skin, is commonly found on the upper natal cleft. An abscess often develops, the most common bacteria being Staphylococcus aureus and bacteroides. Men are more commonly affected than women. Traditionally treatment has been aimed at eradicating the pilonidal sinus without focusing on the alleviation of risk factors, therefore the recurrence rate is high. Recent approaches advocate reducing risk factors.
