Presidential address: Human error, patient safety and the tort liability crisis: The perfect storm
Article Abstract:
The economic reality of obstetrics and gynecology in Florida is presented that is traditionally the specialty of immense emotional rewards tempered by very long hours and a difficulty call schedule. Total obstetric care rose from $620 to $2000 in the 10 years between 1980 and 1990 due to the malpractice crisis of late 1980s.

Psychosocial stress and neuroendocrine mechanisms in preterm delivery
Article Abstract:
The subsets of psychosocial stressors that are disproportionately prevalent among women are discussed. The chronic exposure to poverty, racism, and insecure neighborhoods might condition stress responses and physiologic changes in ways that increase the risk of preterm delivery.
