Presidential address: Not in my hospital: Identifying and reducing unnecessary hospital deaths
Article Abstract:
Institute of Healthcare Improvement started a program titled 'Pursuing Perfection' in 2004 and its goal was to identify and implement system-level changes that can reduce mortality in hospitals. Six proven interventions to be implemented were deploying rapid response teams, improve care for acute myocardial infarction, prevent adverse drug events, prevent central-line-associated bloodstream infections, prevent surgical site infections and prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia.

American MD killed serving troubled corner of the world

Martha C. Myers, MD, was shot to death by a terrorist of al-Qaeda on 30th December 2002 along with hospital director William Koehn and purchasing officer Kathleen Gariety, while working in a hospital in Yemen, Middle East. Doctor Martha had spent her entire career helping the people of Yemen by giving them the best possible medical care.
