Prevalence of and risk factors for lifetime suicide attempts among Blacks in the United States
Article Abstract:
The prevalence and correlates of suicide ideation, planning, and attempts across two ethnic classifications of Afro-Americans in a nationally representative sample is examined. The results suggest that the greatest risk of progression to suicide planning or attempts among ideators occur within the first year after ideation onset, and that the higher risk for suicide attempts in Afro-Americans are in younger birth cohorts, less educated and Midwest residents.

Article Abstract:
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have analyzed data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) to examine changes in violence-related behaviors among high school students in US during 1991-2003. The results of the analysis report that most violence-related behaviors decreased during 1991-2003 but students were increasingly likely to miss school, as they felt it too unsafe to attend.
