Preventing hospital infections
Article Abstract:
Lack of adequate precautions and the use of invasive techniques to treat diseases have been factors in the spread of disease in hospitals. The transmission of HIV has caused hospitals to be more vigilant in preventing nosocomial infections by treating all patients as potentially infectious.

The plight of the long-term refugee

Long-term refugees need help in coping with stress-related emotional problems as well as basic health services. One agency that provides both physical and mental health services is the United National Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East.

Refugees are often suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome and need community-based public mental health services. The Institute for Psychosocial and Socio-Ecological Research in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is testing a preventive intervention program.
