Prevention of diabetes by manipulation of anti-IGRP autoimmunity: High efficiency of a low-affinity peptide
Article Abstract:
A study examined the antidiabetogenic properties of altered peptide ligands of CD8(super +) T cells recognizing an epitope of islet-specific glucose-6-phosphatae catalytic subunit-related protein (IGRP206-214), a prevalent population of autoreactive T cells in autoimmune diabetes. It is shown that islet-associated CD8(super +) T cells in nonobese diabetic mice recognize numerous IGRP epitopes.

Autoimmunity and apoptosis: Refusing to go quietly
Article Abstract:
Apoptosis always increases oxidant stress in calls, which leads to oxidation of the dying cell's membrane lipids. The newly identified oxidized lipids contribute to the recognition and phagocytosis of dying cells and also spur antibody production and inflammation.

Autoimmune islet destruction in spontaneous type 1 diabetes is not beta-cell exclusive
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that autoimmune targeting of pancreatic nervous system cells appears to be an integral part of type 1 diabetes and that pSC-autoreactive T- and B-cell death is not an obligate consequence of inflammation and beta-cell destruction.
