Prevention of radiocontrast nephropathy
Article Abstract:
Radiocontrast nephropathy is a common cause of hospital acquired acute renal failure and has been associated with increased in-hospital mortality and length of stay. The effects of bicarbonate on urine pH might reduce oxygen free-radical formation, thereby reducing radiocontrast-induced injury.

Perioperative beta-blocker therapy and mortality after major noncardiac surgery
Article Abstract:
The use of perioperative beta-blockers and their association with in-hospital mortality in routine clinical practice are assessed. An increase in the use of beta-blockers in high-risk patients helps in enhancing patient safety.

Lipid-lowering therapy and in-hospital mortality following major noncardiac surgery
Article Abstract:
The association between treatment of lipid-lowering medications and in-hospital mortality after a noncardiac surgery is discussed. The treatment with lipid-lowering agents will reduce risk of death.
