Primary HIV drug resistance and efficacy of first-line antiretroviral therapy guided by resistance testing
Article Abstract:
Study is conducted to evaluate the efficacy of first-line highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) guided by genotypic resistance testing by comparing treatment outcomes of patients with drug-sensitive HIV to outcomes of patients with primary resistance. HAART guided by resistance testing had similar efficacy in patients with primary drug resistance as compared with patients with wild-type virus.

Switching to atazanavir improves metabolic disorders in antiretroviral-experienced patients with severe hyperlipidemia
Article Abstract:
The efficacy and change in lipid profile in patients with severe hyperlipidemia after switching to an atazanavir containing highly active antiretroviral therapy regimen is described. A switch to atazanavir that is proposed as a valuable option to improve atherogenic lipid profiles while maintaining virologic control results in a significant improvement in HIV therapy-induced hyperlipidemia.

Progressive multifocal leukencephalopathy in patients on highly active antiretroviral therapy: survival and risk factors of death
Article Abstract:
An attempt is made to describe the clinical course and to determine survival duration in highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART)-treated patients with HIV-associated progressive multifocal leukencephalopathy (PML). The main aim was also to identify risk factors for death and to evaluate the efficacy of cidofovir therapy in addition to HAART.
